Letter: Save Tri-Mountain Golf Course

By Bill Link, LA CENTER
Published: November 6, 2024, 6:00am

Shame on our county councilors. The talk is that Tri-Mountain, one of the best public golf courses in Southwest Washington, is not making money so our councilors want to sell it to the highest bidder for potential development. Sure, that will be a large, one-time financial boost to our county. But here are seven huge forever losses we will experience that money cannot buy:

1. An incredible, family-friendly outdoor recreational mecca;

2. Two different leagues for men, one of which is for senior citizens;

3. One league for women;

4. Summer youth development camps;

5. The home course for local high school teams;

6. An on-site golf professional who teaches children, youth and adults;

7. A parklike setting that promotes honesty, civility, fair play and sportsmanship.

Speaking of parks, if the councilors would think of Tri-Mountain as a park (like many counties and cities do), they might realize it provides a good for the community that is at least not losing money, and better for all of us than more urban development.
