Confused! The article “Costly campaigns and big spenders: Where money is flowing in WA’s elections” (The Columbian, Oct. 30) covers info about Initiative 2117 on the ballot this year.
I-2117 is about maintaining or eliminating the current Climate Commitment Act, which is designed to encourage lowering greenhouse emissions from the highest polluters in the state through a cap-and-trade program. The story states “The most cash is being spent to convince voters to vote ‘no’ on Initiative 2117, which would repeal the state’s Climate Commitment Act.”
Actually, a “no” vote on this issue will keep the Climate Commitment Act in place, not repeal it. The “no” vote will reject Initiative 2117 and keep the Climate Commitment Act in place.
