A Vancouver man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly shooting his father at a Longview apartment.

The Longview Police Department responded about 1:30 a.m. to a shooting in progress at an apartment in the 1600 block of 11th Avenue in Longview.

Casey Jasper, 42, of Longview, suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview, according to a Facebook post by the Longview Police Department.

A witness identified Jasper’s son, Zachary Ekstrom, 23, as the shooter, according to Longview police. Ekstrom fled the scene before police arrived, the agency said.

The witness also reported that Ekstrom discharged a firearm while under the influence of narcotics during a gathering in the apartment, police said.

Officers secured the residence and found spent shell casings and bullet fragments, the post states.

Cowlitz County sheriff’s deputies later located Ekstrom’s car, and he was arrested, medically assessed and booked into the Cowlitz County Jail, according to the post. He is facing attempted murder, first-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and unlawful imprisonment, the jail roster shows.

The investigation is ongoing.
