Letter: Improve highway drainage

By Maddox Perry, VANCOUVER
Published: November 1, 2024, 6:00am

We should be putting more drains on highways, freeways, or any major roadway, especially in the Pacific Northwest.

On Oct. 26, I was driving on state Highway 14 to go home. I hydroplaned so many times it was unbelievable, and other cars were kicking up so much water that I could barely see. The worst moment is when I was on Interstate 5, and as I went under the overpass of Highway 500, I was immediately drenched in water. It was like someone was spraying my windshield with a hose. The only thing I could see were the brake lights of the car in front of me. As I slowed down, I realized that I was veering off into the right lane. Think about how bad that could have been if I collided with another car.
