WOODLAND — The Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office has identified the remains of an adult man pulled from the Columbia River in 2022.

According to a press release from the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office, 34-year-old Pierre Pearson of Georgia was found by two fishermen June 2, 2022, near Martin’s Bar in Woodland.

Pearson was a transient in Portland before his death. His body showed no signs of trauma and there was no indication that he died as a result of a crime. The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office said it has closed the investigation.

His last known contact with his family was in April 2021.

Investigators used Texas-based company Othram, a forensic lab that specializes in DNA testing, to identify potential family members and locate them, the press release said.

After contacting relatives, who provided dental records to the Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office, they able to identify the remains.
