A truck driving northbound on Interstate 5 near La Center struck and killed a 42-year-old Vader woman Friday night.

Woodland resident Guadalupe V. Munoz, 44, was driving a 1991 Nissan pickup around 10:30 p.m. when he failed to yield to a fire engine stopped on the freeway near milepost 17, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo. The pickup crashed into the 2020 Pierce fire engine, and then veered into two pedestrians walking on the right shoulder before coming to a stop in the freeway lanes.

The pickup hit Jessica M. Blinebry, who died at the scene, and 39-year-old Casey J. Blinebry, according to the State Patrol.  Casey J. Blinebry, also of Vader, was injured and taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. The extent of his injuries is unknown.

Munoz wasn’t wearing a seat belt but was uninjured. The State Patrol is pursuing charges of vehicular homicide.
