RICHLAND — Maddie Milhorn and the Skyview Storm were on a mission Saturday.
Denied a shot at a state title by a heartbreaking loss Friday, the Storm and their ace pitcher put up three dominating performances Saturday to capture the third-place trophy at the Class 4A state softball tournament.
Skyview beat Eastmont of Wenatchee 9-5 and Sumner 11-1 in loser-out games, then beat Puyallup for the third time in eight days 8-1 in the third-place game at Columbia Playfields.
In the three games in the pitching circle, Milhorn pitched 14.2 innings, allowed just one run, four hits, no walks and struck out 29 batters.
At the plate, Milhorn went 6 for 8 with a home run and seven RBI.
Taylor Lies also had a big day hitting. She went 6 for 9 with eight runs, a double, triple and three RBI.
After losing to Emerald Ridge 6-5 in the quarterfinals — giving up four runs in the bottom of the seventh — the Storm came back to post four wins by a combined score of 37-8.
