A new member of the Woodland City Council will need to be appointed after councilmember Monte Smith announced his resignation Monday night.
In a statement at the city council meeting, Smith said he and his wife would be moving out of Washington to “embark on new chapters of our lives.” Smith’s resignation took effect at the end of the meeting.
The city is taking applications from people interested in completing Smith’s term in Position 7 through 5 p.m. on June 12. Eligible council members must be registered voters who have lived in Woodland for at least one year before taking office. The appointment will be made by the Woodland City Council at a meeting later this year.
