Led by top-10 finishes by Trenton Maddox and Mason Acker, the Washougal boys golf team earned a runner-up finish at the Class 2A boys golf state championship Wednesday at Liberty Lake Golf Course in Liberty Lake.
Maddox finished with a 36-hole total of 149 to earn sixth-place overall, while Acker was two spots back in eighth with a 151.
Those scores, along with the efforts of Jude King, Mather Minnis and Brayden Kassel, helped Washougal score 127.5 points to finish second to Burlington-Edison, which won with 175.5 points. Columbia River finished third at 79.5 points. Washougal qualified six golfers through to the state tournament, with five advancing to Wednesday’s second round.
Jack Kendrick of Columbia River finished seventh at 150. King tied for 11th along with Grant Gumringer of Hockinson and Luke Potter of Columbia River at 158. Broden Toney of Mark Morris (15th, 159) and Minnis (18th, 161) also finished in the top 20.
