Letter: Issues divide church

By David Wright, Vancouver
Published: May 21, 2024, 6:00am

What a nice letter of agreement from the United Methodist leaders locally (“Churches welcome inclusion,” Our Readers’ Views, May 14). However, what is not mentioned is that over 7,000 churches have left that denomination with many forming the Global Methodist Church. Why, you may ask? Most have disagreements in theology, namely how the church considers LGBTQ+ ministers and congregants. The Bible and their Book of Discipline are no longer relevant.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
