In my 67 years I must wonder what today’s children are thinking about the hypocrisy of being asked to treat people civilly, i.e. no bullying. They look at the news and see an ex-real estate mogul, ex-reality star, and once-elected ex-president named Trump using the language they are asked not to use. Hypocrisy.
These same children have watched the Jan. 6 riots on television. Some politicians, who were hiding that day, are trying to downplay those events, even talking about participants not taking responsibility for their actions. Hypocrisy.
President Harry Truman said, “The buck stops here.” President John F. Kennedy said, “Ask not what your country can do for you but ask what you can do for your country.” Ex- President Trump says, “I did nothing wrong” as he must defend himself against molesting women, paying women that he slept with to keep it quiet while being married, election interference and keeping classified documents — to name just a few of his court dealings.
Our country can do better. We citizens can do better. Through Americans’ ability to be compassionate, caring, creative, ingenious, and loving we can come together in a positive, productive, and democratic manner.
