Letter: Hamas strategy plays out

By Robert Silverman, Vancouver
Published: May 16, 2024, 6:00am

You know, Hamas was a great strategist. It steals billions of dollars going into Gaza, designed for humanitarian aid, to build a vast underground tunnel system designed for warfare, while its leaders also take billions for themselves; they locate their army directly under civilian populations, inviting Palestinian casualties when their warfare efforts lead to expected “return fire,” after a horrendous, vicious, inhumane attack, in order that civilian populations around the world find such casualties unacceptable.

They also create additional harm by turning off water coming into Gaza, litter pathways with bombs in order for Palestinians to suffer while moving from one section of Gaza to another in order to create havoc and charges of inhumanity.

While one civilian casualty is one too many, they inflate the number, to include those in their army who are killed and use social media to blame the victim.

While I am not an apologist for the Israeli government, let me ask: if someone says that they will kill you and if they fail the first time, they will be back again and again until they are successful, would you allow them to have the capacity to do so? What would you do?
