A car that crashed into a central Vancouver apartment building and ruptured a natural gas line prompted fire crews to evacuate people from the area Wednesday morning.

The Vancouver Fire Department responded at 10:11 a.m. for reports of a car into a building near Southeast Ellsworth Road and 10th Avenue.

The crash ruptured a natural gas line attached to the building. Fire crews established a 100-foot perimeter around the building and evacuated the area while they investigated further.

A spokesperson for the department could not be reached for further information Wednesday afternoon.
