Letter: Manage growth wisely

By Gerry Branch, Battle Ground
Published: May 14, 2024, 6:00am

Referring to growth in Ridgefield, I could not agree more with Peter Muellner’s letter (“Rethink growth in Ridgefield,” Our Readers’ Views, May 7). Growth for solely the sake of growth with no forward planning is a recipe for disaster.

While I do not live in Ridgefield, and now glad that I don’t, these concerns bother me as Battle Ground might try to compete. This is a competition we should not enter. Every time growth or expansion occurs, the end result is more property taxes. What is the point of that? There has to be better balance between more schools caused by growth and ever-increasing property taxes to support this growth. The solution of going to the well for more funding does not work anymore.

I hope someone can come up with a workable/satisfactory solution.
