Letter: Help needed with young pup

By Jeanine Rosch, VANCOUVER

I’m a disabled senior who was asked to save a young dog’s life from the harm he was subjected to living in the homeless community on the streets of downtown Vancouver. Moby was a 5-month-old bullmastiff/shepherd cross pup who, even though he had signs of abuse, was loving and so willing to do his best to please. I fell in love with the boy and he displays a great love for me also.

What I don’t get is the attitude I’ve received from the Humane Society community.

I believed I was helping a pup and our community and turned to the Humane Society believing I’d find help and support here. I read they waive the fees for elder adoption and with that they provide other support programs like behavioral training, food, spay/neutering, microchip and rabies shots and licensing assistance.

So why can I not access these programs when I am providing a service to get yet another dog off the streets? Can you consider Moby and I in helping us help all involved? Please?
