Lauren Baker of La Center softball is The Columbian 2023-24 Week 25 high school athlete of the week, sponsored by Killer Burger.
Baker beat out Jack Williams of Seton Catholic softball for the honor.
Baker, a sophomore, went 7 for 8 with seven runs, a double, triple, home run and nine RBI in a doubleheader sweep of King’s Way Christian.
Winners of the athlete-of-the-week may not be nominated again during the regular season, and no athlete may be nominated in consecutive weeks.
Nominees are posted and voting begins each Monday and runs through Wednesday.
Here are the other Week 25 nominees and their accomplishments:
JOSIAH ALANIS, EVERGREEN BOYS TRACK AND FIELD: The junior set a 3A state-best mark of 23-2.5 in the long jump vs. Mountain View, then added a runner-up finish at the Nike/Jesuit Twilight Relays.
MARRKU LAUKKANEN, CAMAS BOYS SOCCER: The senior scored two goals and added an assist as the Papermakers posted wins over Heritage and Skyview.
JACK WILLIAMS, SETON CATHOLIC BASEBALL: The junior threw a perfect game, striking out nine in a 9-0 win over Columbia-White Salmon.
ADDY SIEMER, WOODLAND GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD: The junior won the triple jump at the Timberwolf Invite at Heritage and also won the high jump at the meet.
