Rep. Sharon Wylie, D-Vancouver, announced today she is seeking reelection to Washington’s 49th Legislative District, a seat she’s held since 2011.

In a news release, Wylie touted her broad experience and attention to a variety of needs at the state and local level as key assets in her work to address climate change, the affordable housing crisis and addiction.

“Our state is investing in community-based housing solutions, local mental health services and treatment,” she said. “We are still impacted by the pandemic, but our state has the strongest economy in the nation. My goal is to ensure that the opportunity to benefit from that economy is available to all. Replacing failing infrastructure and preparing our state to lead on clean energy and job creation is essential.”

Wylie is a chair of the Regulated Substances and Gaming Committee and member of the Finance Committee. She represents the House Democratic Caucus on the State Arts Commission and the Washington Economic Development Finance Authority.

She was a past chairwoman of the Council for the Homeless prior to her work as a state representative.

Wylie said she is proud of her legislative work that bolstered Vancouver’s waterfront development, increased housing for youth aging out of foster care and addressed the rape kit backlog.

Growing support to protect and restore the health of Vancouver Lake continues to be a priority for Wylie, according to the news release.

“Bringing multiple agencies and community members together is part of saving this recreational and economic treasure,” she said.
