Sunshine broke through right on schedule Friday, and we enjoyed those puffy white clouds floating along with the flow of air. Fair and relatively warm weather is on tap this weekend and since we deserve a break we will continue the fair weather through Tuesday. In fact, the warmest day may be on Monday or Tuesday.
Of course, we will pay the price for sunny weather, and this go-around is no exception. After a potential high of 70 degrees on Tuesday, we drop nearly 20 degrees the next day on Wednesday as a cold trough of low-pressure swings in from the chilly Gulf of Alaska. Snow levels drop into our foothills, and I expect I may get an email or two from one of our weather observers that the white stuff is falling and even sticking on the ground.
And so it goes with April. The month wants to shine in the best way but cold air to our north still lingers and is drawn down over us by passing weather fronts. That is the precise recipe for those April showers, ice pellets and of course rainbows. All in preparation for those May flowers that are mentioned often in old folklore.
I will say as we transition into this brief dry spell some outlying locations and foothills may have frost this weekend and perhaps Monday morning. The rest of us are fine but still don’t rush in setting sensitive plants. A fresh coating of snow is on tap for Silver Star Mountain to our east, which we old timers count on predicting the possibility of frost.
