YWCA Clark County is among 10 YWCAs across Washington that will share a $12 million grant from the Bellevue-based Ballmer Group.

Its portion, $1.2 million, will help the nonprofit to continue its work to support the economic advancement and safety of women and children in Clark County.

The grant will be distributed over three years, according to a news release. YWCA Clark County is the local chapter of a nationwide nonprofit that provides services and housing to domestic violence survivors and their children. The nonprofit has other programs centered around women, children and people of color.

In Washington, more than 40 percent of women and more than 31 percent of men experience domestic physical violence, intimate partner rape or stalking in their lifetimes, according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

“We are thrilled by the Ballmer Group’s generous investment in Washington’s YWCAs, recognizing our crucial work in supporting women, children and communities of color,” Brittini Lasseigne, CEO of YWCA Clark County, said in the news release. “This partnership magnifies our ability to create significant, positive change for those most in need across the state. We’re honored to be part of this collective effort to empower our communities.”
