Weather Eye: Sun will shine on Easter, but April showers ahead

We are getting close. Yay, the weekend is in sight and despite cloudy skies and showers today I see beyond the overcast as sunshine arrives in time for Easter weekend. We’ll give a thumbs-up to the month of March for departing on such a bright and worthy note.

As I mentioned here earlier in the week, the atmosphere begins to calm down on Friday and a warm ridge of high pressure builds inland over the Pacific Northwest. We will be well into the 60s on Saturday and Sunday and if nature tries hard enough, close to the 70-degree mark.

Come on, it did it six days in a row already this month.

Looking into the crystal weather sphere, while it is bright this weekend, there will be more clouds on the horizon beyond Monday. That implies a few April showers next week but hey, befitting for spring break wouldn’t you say? At least I do not see any cold weather heading our way and no nighttime freezes either. Many are nearly out of the woods with morning frost while the rest of us keep a sharp weather eye out for clear skies under a chilly air mass.

How did the last three days of March fare in 2023? Well, not so well, it was cool and rainy each of the last three days of the month. This year, completely the opposite. I must mention it as there seems to always be a caveat in the weather forecast, true? Friday as the cool and damp air is pushed eastward, there is a slight chance of a morning shower but if it does, we will have forgotten that after a beautiful weekend.

Rain below average

So far this month in Vancouver as of late Tuesday we were running about 1 inch below average in the rainfall department. With Wednesday’s rain and another shot today we will be close to average, but the dry weekend may keep us from reaching normal for March.

I’ll check the rain dipstick Friday and report how we did in this weekend’s column.

Meanwhile, jump over the puddles and then you’ll have it made by Saturday.

Take good care everyone.
