Letter: End military aid to Israel

It is beyond debate that, at times over the last 75 years, people on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict have engaged in conduct beyond the pale, inflicting extensive pain and misery on ordinary people. It also seems beyond debate that, if this horror is ever to end, the two sides must agree to a two-state solution. Sadly, leaders on both sides lack the will or ability to reach such a solution.

In the meantime, we are now, as Nicholas Kristof noted in a recent column, “in a bizarre situation: American bombs and American aid are both falling from Gaza’s skies.” While the warring sides may wish to continue to pound each other into oblivion, the United States should no longer assist in such efforts. It is time to eliminate foreign aid in the form of armaments, and to provide humanitarian aid only.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
