Weather Eye: Stormy time ahead, but Easter weekend should shine

Stormy weather ahead folks. A juicy weather system will approach later this evening and continue to pound the region with a good amount of rain and breezy conditions as well on Wednesday. A cold pool of air following the front will keep showers going on Thursday with a chance of thunder and hail. Snow falls in the mountains.

I have good news to share with you. It appears now that March will go out as a lamb and so befitting to be on Easter Sunday. Great weather on tap this weekend for any outdoor egg hunting. Temperatures well into the 60s and low 70s wouldn’t surprise me for Easter Sunday. Get through the next couple of days and then we see great improvement. April may greet us with fair skies.

You’ll remember that March roared in like a lion and a bit temperamental with rain and snow here at city levels and plenty of wet snow in our outlying areas of the county. A plain cold and wet sloppy day. So, thank you March, you will depart on a warm and cheery note.

What does April have in store for us? I don’t mind the April showers to get those May flowers but looking forward to those bright sunbreaks between the showers. Rainbows abound, white towering cumulus bellowing high in the sky and cherry blossoms blowing with the breezes. Ready for spring?

The weather turned cool and damp last Wednesday after that unusual string of 70-degree days. I thought we would get more rain than we did with less than one-half inch from Wednesday through Sunday here in Vancouver. We are running about an inch and a quarter below normal so far this month. Today through Friday will assist in getting that closer to average but we’ll see if enough rain falls to round the month up to the climatological average.

Monday’s light rain marked six days in a row of measurable rain keeping our wet spell going. As I mentioned earlier, rainfall is light but will certainly be enhanced with tonight’s storm. I know plenty of you are getting anxious to do some outdoor planting but be patient. Chilly weather is still with us and we are not out of the frosty conditions quite yet for most of the county.

We’ll chat on Thursday.
