It seems that the mayor of Battle Ground has spoken out against the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad expansion plans and the heavy industrial rezoning the Clark County Council has proposed.
Mayor Troy McCoy speaks for the city of Battle Ground and recognizes that the only beneficiary of the proposed expansion is the mine owner. Further, he points out how detrimental to the citizens of Battle Ground this proposed heavy industrial development along the tracks would be, citing the close proximity to schools and homes and the potential delay to emergency services responsiveness.
Mayor McCoy is listening to his constituents, who are voicing strong opposition to this expansion, and he is to be applauded as the Battle Ground City Council adopts a resolution against the railroad expansion plans.
The citizens of Clark County have repeatedly spoken up to the Clark County Council against the Freight Rail Dependent Use implementation, especially the heavy industrial expansion. It benefits the mining operation and no one else. It’s bad for the people who live along the tracks, it’s bad for the city of Battle Ground and it’s not an economic benefit to Clark County.
Are you listening, councilors?
