Vancouver man found on fire died from injuries and smoke inhalation, medical examiner’s office says

A Vancouver man found on fire Dec. 20 on a downtown Vancouver sidewalk died from thermal injuries and smoke inhalation while intoxicated with fentanyl and methamphetamine, according to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office.

How Demetrius Williams Coles, 30, caught on fire is undetermined, according to the report.

Vancouver police responded at 3:23 a.m. to West Ninth and Columbia streets for a report of a body on the sidewalk on fire. Officers found Coles dead with his upper torso on fire.

Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp previously said Coles’ death was being investigated as an accident.
