Letter: Climate effort is madness

By Bob Harper, VANCOUVER
Published: March 23, 2024, 6:00am

Like many other people, I have just received my March bill from NW Natural. Not including the “WA Climate Control Credit” my bill increased by 41 percent. With that credit, which of course may and probably will decrease over time, my bill was up 17.7 percent. Does anyone seriously believe that this rapacious increase will do anything to cool the Earth? If you do, I know a bridge in Brooklyn that’s for sale.

No, the purposes of this act are twofold: 1) to create a giant slush fund for progressives to spend on their virtue-signaling projects that will accomplish little or nothing to address climate change; and 2) to further the project to exert ever-increasing control over the citizenry as part of the project to reduce them from freedom to serfdom.

Attempting, as this act does, to force large changes in our way of life by legislative fiat is a fool’s errand that will be rewarded by failure to accomplish the ostensible goal. That it involves controlling a system so complex as the Earth’s climate is, in the words of Hans Sachs in Wagner’s “Die Meistersinger”: “Wahn! Wahn! Überall Wahn!” (“Madness! Madness! Everywhere Madness!”)
