Letter: Ask Fido about dog parks

By Jess Rubenstein, Vancouver
Published: March 21, 2024, 6:00am

Lost in the debate about rezoning near 117th Avenue in Brush Prairie is Lucky Dog Park tucked behind a dead end at 149th Street. It is a place where dog owners can get their dogs some exercise and socialize in a safe location. But now the Clark County Council wants to rezone the park and set it up to be turned into yet another crowded neighborhood. Why? Does every inch of land have to be turned into a housing complex?

Clark County has a smaller number of dog parks per population than most metro areas. In the Vancouver metro area, there are just four parks for the dogs and to the politicians they are the last to be taken care of.

Where am I supposed to go if my dog and I lose Lucky? To another overcrowded dog park? Please protect what little dog parks we have left in this area, call your local councilor and tell them that Fido says no to rezoning.

Maybe we need to get new councilors who will listen to the dog owners instead of the developers.
