COLUMBIA WAY — For the 29th year, the Beaches Restaurant and Bar team celebrated Read Across America Week. This year’s event, called Beaches, Bites, & Books, once again saw the Beaches Restaurant team provide breakfast to all the first-graders and their families in Vancouver Public Schools.
Beaches’ participation in Read Across America began with one school back in 1995. By the third year, the program grew to include every Vancouver Public School elementary, as well as all the elementary schools in Evergreen Public Schools.
This year the team members planned to visit 25 Vancouver schools, giving out more than 1,700 books in at least 14 languages including Chuukese, Twi, Hindi and Arabic.
Riverview Bank & Trust and Wellpoint were this year’s book sponsors, ensuring that every child receives a book that encourages them to read.
