Weather Eye: 70-degree weather on its way to Clark County later this week

Storm number three did not disappoint as it moved through late Monday afternoon. Blustery winds and gray skies with steady rain. Today we feel the aftereffects with scattered showers and still some breezy conditions. Perhaps a thunderstorm with the colder air aloft.

Then as we have discussed for a while, high pressure slowly builds on Wednesday and will push any remaining showers off to the east. It will be chilly Wednesday night and I expect scattered frost nearly anywhere by Thursday morning.

With clear skies highs will rise into the 60s on Thursday and then in the 70s Friday through Monday. That is considered an unusual stretch of 70-degree weather for March. Usually, a day or two. We are lucky. Be prepared to get the lawnmower out and begin the race against the fast-growing lawn. Weeds will proliferate too. The birdies should be singing, and everyone should have a smile on their face.

As I have been saying here for a couple of weeks, I can’t wait. As I write this column the rain is pelting against my windowpane and I’m wearing a sweater. But never fear, my spring attire is ready and hanging in the closet. That includes a pair of shorts!

We barely managed a high of 50 degrees Monday which keeps our average mean temperature for the month so far about 4 degrees below normal. Rainfall at 5 p.m. Monday was right in there with the expected amount for the month at present.

Much of the foothill snow around us is melting and filling hillside creeks but no flooding expected. With plenty of snow keeping the ground moisture intact and some abundant sunshine next month, the wildflowers should be spectacular as they slowly emerge. Nothing like hiking in the foothills under warm spring sunshine and fields of color.

Of course, April may have other plans and we wait until May or June. Regardless, we dream and visualize.

Get ready for a taste of early spring, maybe wash off the patio furniture, drag the barbeque out this weekend and enjoy the peaceful weather. Oh, there will be some gusty easterly winds at times that could be a little annoying in exposed locations.

Take good care!
