A 68-year-old Camas man was killed Tuesday morning when he was struck by a train, according to the Camas Police Department.

Police said they responded at 7:11 a.m. for a person who had been struck by a BNSF Railway train near the 200 block of Southeast Garfield Street.

The man was found dead next to the railroad tracks. Police said they believe he was struck by a westbound train.

It appears the man died by suicide. His identity is being withheld pending family notifications, the police department said. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office will release his name and cause and manner of death.

The Camas Police Department and BNSF are continuing to investigate.
