Oregon chain Oswego Grill plans to take over the riverfront space held by Beaches Restaurant and Bar, expecting to open its Vancouver outpost in the spring or summer of 2025.
“Replacing the iconic Beaches was not going to be easy, but we do believe we have hit it out of the park with our newest tenant — Oswego Grill,” building owner C.E. John Co. said in a Wednesday statement.
The restaurant serves an extensive menu, including burgers, salads, steak and seafood.
C.E. John Co. said it received several dozen inquiries about the site from local, regional and national restaurants. It said the amount of interest wasn’t a surprise given the property sits “directly on the Columbia River, with abundant parking.”
“Great access is exceedingly difficult to find in the Pacific Northwest,” its statement said.
C.E. John Co. said its primary target was Oswego Grill because the companies have shared a long and successful relationship.
“We knew this exceptionally special location commanded a remarkably well-run business with a clear focus on detail, unmatched quality and unparalleled service,” the statement said.
The regional restaurant chain operates four locations in Oregon — Beaverton, Clackamas, Lake Oswego and Wilsonville — but this will be the first in Washington.
C.E. John Co. described Oswego Grill as renowned for its “upscale elegance at a casual price.”
The chain is owned by Crossroads Restaurant Group, which also runs Copper River Restaurant and Bar in Hillsboro, Ore., and Hop Social Grill in Chandler, Ariz.
“We are passionate about delivering scratch-made meals from fresh, local and seasonal ingredients, the best the Northwest has to offer,” according to the restaurant’s website.
Oswego Grill will take over the space in Vancouver’s Columbia Shore’s neighborhood in the first part of 2025, planning a significant interior and exterior remodel.
Beaches Restaurant and Bar opened on the Vancouver waterfront in June 1995, eventually becoming known for its culture of service and community engagement. Owner Mark Matthias announced in February he and his wife would be retiring at the end of the year.
