Letter: Crack down on immigration now

By Doug Glover, Vancouver

The United States cannot wait for another 8 million undocumented migrants to enter the United States before acting to control the border.

The government needs to pass legislation barring people from being processed for asylum in the United States for five to 10 years and instead require them to apply for refugee status outside the United States at locations designated by the United States.

The government could then temporarily increase staffing to handle the many asylum-seekers already here. People not requesting asylum could be removed expeditiously by Congress allowing removal throughout the entire United States and not limiting expedited removal to only miles from the border.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
