Letter: Trump is failed leader

Roy Schimelpfenig (“Trump is a true leader,” Our Readers’ Views, June 22) has been asleep at the wheel. Trump encouraged millions of people to go unvaccinated during COVID, allowing nearly a million citizens to die. Yes, half of the deaths were after Trump left the White House, but his lies, mischaracterizations of the vaccines and failure to act lived on after him.

Trump sided with America’s foes, praising Russia’s Putin and North Korea’s Kim, but slurring American intelligence, justice, military, civil service, medicine, women, immigrants, Black people and a majority of Americans who did not vote for him. Trump also slurred and threatened American allies, the very people who stood with America since World War II and through 9/11, joining us in the hunt for Osama bin Laden.

Trump unilaterally backed out of treaties that helped stabilize global relationships, contributing to increased instability around the globe. Worst of all, he set up the conditions and timeline for America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, for which Biden took the blame. Trump made promises for health care but did nothing; infrastructure — nothing but talk; immigration reform — a failed wall and talk. Space limitations prevent me from listing more of Trump’s failures.
