Letter: Policies invite asylum-seekers

By Doug Glover, Vancouver

Having worked at the southern border for 10 years, one discovered that certain occurrences would happen again and again. One such guaranteed occurrence was an immediate significant surge in attempts at unlawful entry whenever there was even a rumor of possible government immigration amnesty or other relief for undocumented persons.

Now, imagine a presidential candidate inviting undocumented persons to surge the border and promising a pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants.

Imagine the House passing a bill to reform asylum and the Senate majority leader won’t allow the bill to be voted upon.

Surely, something you could only find in a fiction novel.
