I found it interesting that 75 years ago the city was dealing with fireworks issues. In the This Week in Clark County History article (The Columbian, June 7), Mayor Vern Anderson cracked down on firecrackers and fireworks within the city limits. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Dale Reed announced limitations on the legal sale of fireworks to toy cap pistols, sparklers and flash crackers.
It’s time to end the fireworks debate of city vs. county. Since most people don’t know if they live in the city or even care, fireworks usage should be banned countywide.
I have called the fireworks number every year when the people in my area start lighting off the fireworks. They start before the legal date and go long into the early morning hours. The fireworks go past the legal end date also.
I don’t know if the fire marshals keep track of the areas of reported abuses every year, but they should. By eliminating fireworks, more people will be able to get a good night’s sleep and not have their hearts racing, their animals will not be traumatized and there will be an end to noise and chemical pollution.
