Martha Wiley’s letter clearly states the facts of poverty and child hunger in Clark County (“Show compassion for children,” Our Readers’ Views, June 19). Sadly, the rest of the country has similar poverty-causing hunger.
SNAP benefits could provide more relief if the amounts were updated to cover current food costs. This is where we can take action. As Congress considers a new farm bill, which includes SNAP, we can ask lawmakers to reject efforts to cut or restrict SNAP. Instead, ask them to work to make it stronger by expanding access and increasing benefits for vulnerable populations.
Why do this? Because too many children are hungry, and our voices can guide those who represent us to turn this around. Our children deserve enough to eat, creating a better future for them and the country.
