BATTLE GROUND — The Battle Ground Senior Citizens group has grown to nearly 500, and now serves close to 200 seniors at its monthly luncheon. The organization goes through numerous supplies for the luncheon and to provide continued communications to local seniors. To help with costs, Lori Lindberg, board adviser to the Battle Ground Senior Citizens, threw down a challenge to local Rotarians. She met with both Battle Ground Rotary and Lewis River Rotary clubs and asked them to donate. To make the event more interesting and fun, Detroit Pizza offered to donate a pizza party on its patio to the group which brought in the most donations.
The clubs had two weeks to gather donations for the luncheon, office supplies, raffle items and more. At the end of two weeks the Rotarians gathered more than $4,000 in goods. Battle Ground Rotary was the winning club.
“Lewis River Rotarians strongly believe in participating in community events and activities. This fundraising campaign is a good example of the role we strive for,” Lewis River Rotary president Lisa Oldham said.
“Battle Ground Rotary always enjoys finding ways to serve our community. And this fundraiser was an event that was really enjoyed by all the members,” Battle Ground Rotary president David Welch said.
“We were completely astonished by the overwhelming support of donations from our local Rotarians. These items are so needed and will help us serve our nearly 500 seniors on the roster now,” said Sharon Wodtke, president of the senior citizens group.
