YAKIMA — The Washington State Department of Natural Resources will ban dispersed campfires in its southeast region starting Friday in response to increasing wildfire danger.
Hikers and backpackers may still use portable gas stoves for cooking. Campfires may still be allowed in designated DNR-managed campgrounds. Updates can be found at dnr.wa.gov/campsites.
The DNR’s southeast region has almost 900,000 acres of public land and encompasses all of Yakima and Kittitas counties; stretching as far east as Skamania County, far west as Asotin County, and as far north as Chelan County.
