Summer officially begins in earnest later this afternoon with highs forecast to be around 90 degrees. The same goes for tomorrow. Saturday we hopefully drop back into the mid-80s. Wednesday it was 86 degrees in Vancouver at 4: 30 p.m., but the official high hadn’t arrived as of this writing.
The mid-80s Wednesday were a quick jump from the 60s over the weekend and low 70s on Tuesday. It takes a while for the human body to adjust to such rapid heat rises. Of course, there is always a silver lining in the forecast if we look close enough. It appears cooler marine air will filter inland Sunday and continue through midweek with highs in the mid-70s, about where they should be at this time of the year.
The cool trough of low pressure responsible for the cooling trend remains far enough north in British Columbia so I believe the rain chances are nil. Perhaps some morning clouds but mostly sunny afternoons and dry. Keep watering the garden. When the cooler ocean air arrives Sunday, I expect a somewhat dense morning overcast clearing in the afternoon and evening hours. It is possible some mist or light drizzle could form, mainly over the foothills.
Forecast looks dry
Other than that, all systems are go for pleasant summer weather with something for sun worshippers and highs later in the 70s for people like me. I don’t see any rain of any significance heading our way or any record-breaking, extended heat waves, either. I’m beginning to think that this summer will continue to oscillate between a few hot days and a few cooler days with spotty precipitation. This would be great news for wildfire situations.
