Today we welcome summery weather and open the door for some hotter weather as the week wears on. In short, 70s today, 80s Wednesday, near 90 Thursday and low 90s on Friday. That is the forecast as I see it writing my column Monday evening.
After a couple of hot days, we cool into the 80s on Saturday and then back in the 70s Sunday as forecast charts indicate another cool trough of low pressure will be nearby. That is the usual pattern anyway, during summer months. A few hot days then a few cooler days and on and on it goes. Summer officially arrives Thursday at 1:51 p.m. which is good timing for a 90 degree hot temperature, right?
After the rain over the weekend, these warm temperatures will really make the garden grow and I know, I know, the lawn as well. Rainfall amounts Saturday were about one-quarter inch of rain officially in Vancouver with none on Sunday. We had plenty of sunny periods Saturday that allowed the lower atmosphere to warm and that in turn developed some heavy rain showers. That 0.26 of an inch in Vancouver was surpassed with one-half inch to one-inch amounts in many neighborhoods as those gully-washers fell.
Enough marine clouds lingered Monday to produce some scattered drizzle or light rain showers and Vancouver as of 4 p.m. Monday picked up 0.02 of an inch. That brought our monthly total to 1.22 inches, which was about a tenth of an inch above average.
