LONGVIEW — Three people were injured, one critically, after a minivan hit a pedestrian and crashed into an apartment complex, trapping a woman inside Thursday.

According to the Longview Fire Department, an elderly man was driving the minivan when it left the road, hit a woman in its path and crashed into the apartment building.

Crews arrived at the apartments in the 1000 block of Seventh Avenue at 11:24 a.m. to find the van inside the building. The driver was sill in the vehicle, and the pedestrian was unconscious on the lawn. A woman was also trapped between the van and an inside wall of the apartment, the agency said.

Fire crews rescued the woman trapped in the apartment by cutting the wall with chain saws. She was transported by LifeFlight to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver. She is in critical condition.

The pedestrian and driver of the van were transported to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview.

The residents of the apartment were evacuated while the city reviewed the structural damage. Power was shut off as a precaution.

Longview police are investigating.
