Letter: Work together on homelessness

By Michael Piper, VANCOUVER
Published: June 12, 2024, 6:00am

The city and the county need to work in partnership to even begin to address homelessness in Vancouver and Clark County.

It’s ironic that the city is asking the county for mental health revenue for their proposed shelter costs when there’s already a shortage of mental health resources for those experiencing mental illness. The city calls their shelter a “ bridge” shelter – a bridge to what to what? Services? Housing? Where? The problem is too big for the city and county to work independently and not in partnership. But I do appreciate that the city is trying to do something.
