SEATTLE — Two people were hurt Saturday when a small plane crashed near the Ocean Shores Municipal Airport in Grays Harbor County, fire officials said.

At 4:15 p.m., the Ocean Shores Fire Department responded to a report of a plane crash in a marshy area near the airport, the city’s fire department said in a news release posted on Facebook.

The crash site, about 100 yards from the runway pavement, was inaccessible to emergency vehicles, so crews raced to the crash on foot to find two people trapped in the single-engine, fixed-wing plane, the department said.

The Daily World of Aberdeen reported that one occupant, a woman, was in critical condition when crews took her out of the plane. She was stabilized and airlifted by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The second person, a man, was trapped by a wing of the damaged aircraft for about an hour until rescuers could cut him loose, according to the fire department and the Daily World report.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the crash.
