Letter: Residents protected in climate act

Cheers to our Democratic legislators for ensuring that the burden of the clean-energy transition does not fall on low- and middle-income households.

First of all, the Climate Commitment Act does not raise the price of gas heat for those households. Secondly, the Democrats funded a brilliant plan to provide relief for gasoline prices.

Our Democrats are funneling relief funds through the electric utilities because utilities have already identified low- and middle-income ratepayers. Qualified customers will receive bill credits of $200 per household to cover higher gasoline prices. Customers residing in overburdened communities and vulnerable populations as defined under RCW 70A.02.010 will receive additional prioritization. This includes individuals who have participated in programs like the Low Income Energy Assistance Program or Operation Warm Hearts.

Protect the benefits of the Climate Commitment Act. Vote “no” on I-2117. Low- and middle-income residents are protected.
