Letter: Reject Initiative 2117

By Steve Foster, VANCOUVER
Published: June 8, 2024, 6:00am

Vote “no” on Initiative 2117. By repealing the Climate Commitment Act, passed by Washington Legislature in 2021:

1) I-2117 will harm Washington taxpayers and communities across the state.

2) It would strip billions in investment from community priorities in all Washington counties, such as air quality, transportation and transit, fish habitat and wildfire prevention, strip out support for Native peoples, and delete grants that support farmers’ and ranchers’ sustainable practices.

3) It would shift the huge burden of paying for pollution impacts to all of us in Washington. It will not save any of us any money.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
