I’m writing in response to the recent editorial “Voters understand elections conducted fairly” regarding a failed local initiative (In Our View, June 1).
I appreciate The Columbian Editorial Board’s observation: “ … voters clearly believe that Clark County’s elections are trustworthy.”
However, the editorial also implies that the failed local initiative’s call for chain-of-custody records would have created an addition to Clark County’s elections administration processes. This is not correct.
Clark County’s Elections Office has a comprehensive chain-of-custody protocol that is adhered to for every ballot retrieved from a ballot drop box or received from the USPS and as ballots are processed, counted and stored. Detailed chain-of-custody records for each election are available to the public.
Anyone with concerns or questions regarding Clark County’s elections administration is encouraged to contact me. My phone number is 564-397-2078; my email address is Greg.Kimsey@Clark.Wa.Gov.
