Letter: Enough with the ‘fighting’

By Carolyn J. Rose, VANCOUVER

I’m fed up with seeing political signs claiming a candidate will fight for me. In my opinion, we’ve had enough fighting and it’s not getting us anywhere.

I’d prefer a promise to get the facts, study issues carefully, listen to both sides, look to the future, craft plans that will be beneficial and healthy for all of us, and seek support and consensus through positive and rational discussion.

Of course, that’s way too much for a slogan. So I don’t expect to see anything like that soon.

And by the way, you can’t win me over with signs claiming to protect my rights. Thanks to court rulings and legislative action, some of my rights as a woman are gone or eroding rapidly. How about working to restore and expand them?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
