Letter: Will Trump be allowed to vote?

By Joe Kooijman, VANCOUVER
Published: June 6, 2024, 6:00am

Former president Donald Trump has now been convicted by a jury of his peers of 34 felonies.

This has no consequences for his candidacy for the presidency of the U.S., even if he is in jail at the time of the election (Eugene V. Debs was in jail during the 1920 presidential election). But will Trump, as a convicted felon, be allowed to cast his vote himself under the laws of the State of Florida, where he legally resides, even if he is not in jail at the time of the election? I seem to remember that Florida is rather strict in denying the vote to felons.
