EAST WENATCHEE — The Webb Fire has burned about 60 acres in East Wenatchee prompting Level 2 evacuations with extreme alert.
The Wenatchee Valley Fire Department reached 50% containment Tuesday evening, Fire Chief Brian Brett said.
“The wind is problematic, it can still escape containment,” Brett added.
Brett said he hopes to mop the fire overnight and complete extinguishment over the next few days.
The three-alarm brush fire ignited at the Greater Wenatchee Landfill on Tuesday afternoon.
The fire was reported at 2:43 p.m. and quickly spread due to high winds, Brett said.
A helicopter was requested to help combat the fire. The National Weather Service reported 26 mph winds and gusts of wind up to 44 mph making fire conditions hazardous. The public is encouraged to stay out of the area.
