Can we finally dispense with the myth that the Republicans are better stewards of the economy? Consider the facts:
Clinton and the Democrats created 23 million jobs, with low inflation and, eventually, a projected $5.9 trillion surplus.
Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy ensured that surplus vanished. Republican deregulation led to the Great Recession and the monthly loss of 660,000 jobs.
Obama reversed this, with 76 straight months of job growth, an economy so good that even Trump couldn’t mess it up — until he did. His disastrous handling of the pandemic led to the loss of 2.7 million jobs, pathetic growth of 1.45 percent and $7.8 trillion added to the national debt. We were teetering on the brink of a depression.
