Letter: Initiative effort was dishonest

By Mike Coffman, VANCOUVER

Just read in The Columbian that the “Election Integrity” petition failed to get the required minimum signatures to qualify for the next election (“Clark County election security petition falls about 20,000 signatures short,” The Columbian, May 29). Not surprising, given the fact that our elections, both locally and nationally, are (and have been proven so many, many times) both secure and fair, and that most voters concur. That is the reason this initiative failed, not because of any bias or underhanded tactics by anyone.

If truth mattered to the authors of this initiative, they would have named it the “We Support The Results Of Elections Only If Our Candidates Win Initiative.” The result would have been the same, but at least they could have been given credit for being honest.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
